Of which, containers reached 5 million TEUs, an increase of 14% compared to 2019. In March, the volume of cargo through seaports reached nearly 61 million tons, up 9% over the same period last year, of which, the number of containers was nearly 2 million TEUs, up 13% over the same period last year.     

Opposingthe growth of goods through the port, the number of passengers through the port has decreased significantly. Accordingly, the number of ships arriving atthe port in March was 4,638, down 35% compared to 2019, of which the number of international tourist ships was onlytwo, equalto 1.6% compared to 2019.

The total number of passenger tours arriving at the port in the first quarter was 16,473, of which foreign passengers decreased by 40% compared to the first quarter. The number of passengers through the port in the first quarter was more than 1.6 million (mostly domestic tourists), only 64% ofthe same period in 2019.

Notably, according to the Vietnam Maritime Administration, due to difficulties in operating general cargo ships onintra-Asia and Southeast Asia routes, Vietnamese ship owners have brought their ships to Vietnam to operate, which caused competition directly against domestic ships.
