This session began with a technical meeting on Economic, Trade and Financial Cooperation in the morning of September 21, 2021 under the co-chair of Ms. Vo Hong Anh, Deputy Director of European - American Market Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade of Viet Nam and Ms. Erika Medina Pina, Director of International Trade Negotiation Department, Ministry of Economy of Mexico.
At this meeting, the two sides focused on exchanging contents on bilateral trade turnover and priority export items between the two countries; the implementation of the CPTPP Agreement; promoting bilateral trade activities and cooperation in the fields of finance and customs.
Viet Nam and Mexico highly appreciated the results achieved in the bilateral economic - trade relations over the past time. Currently, Mexico is the third largest trading partner of Viet Nam in Latin America (according to statistics of the General Department of Viet Nam Customs).
In addition, the two sides also highly appreciated the importance of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) in promoting bilateral trade and cooperation in the implementation of the Agreement in the fields of origin of goods and bilateral letter on textiles. Viet Nam informed that the signature and stamp specimens of the official and competent authority of Viet Nam to issue the latest C/O according to the form of CPTPP in 2021 have been sent to the member countries through the Embassy channel and through the virtual mail channel of the CPTPP.
At the end of the meeting, Viet Nam and Mexico discussed cooperation in the fields of finance and customs. The two sides have been implementing international commitments in Chapter 5 (Customs Administration and Trade Facilitation) of the CPTPP Agreement. In order to concretize cooperation on customs matter as well as comply with international commitments in this Chapter, the Customs Administrations of the two countries will continue to promote the negotiation of the Agreement at governmental level and conclude negotiations in the near future.
The technical meeting on Economic, Trade and Financial Cooperation successfully ended. In addition, this session also included technical meetings on Agricultural Cooperation; Science and technology; and Health in the morning of September 22, 2021 and the plenary meeting on September 24, 2021 under the co-chair of Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Do Thang Hai and Deputy Minister of Economy Luz María de la Mora.
On February 4, 2016, in Auckland (New Zealand), on the sidelines of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) signing ceremony, the Minister of Industry and Trade of Viet Nam and the Minister of Economy of Mexico signed an Agreement to establish Ministerial Joint Committee on Economic, Trade and Investment Cooperation between Viet Nam and Mexico. This committee will be co-chaired by two Ministers. The Joint Committee on Economic, Trade and Investment Cooperation between Viet Nam and Mexico was established to promote information exchange on potential industry projects to diversify and promote cooperation on economic, trade and investment between the two countries; consider the main barriers to trade and investment to propose measures and solutions; promote cooperation on training and capacity building in the fields of trade, investment and economy.
