According to the update by Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs Branch, from the beginning of the year to October 12, the largest export agricultural product that went through customs procedures at the branch was cassava with a turnover of US$39.8 million.

In addition, other groups recording an export turnover of "millions of dollars" included: watermelons with nearly US$8 million; bananas with US$2 million; and lychee with nearly US$1.5 million.

Notably, one of the biggest export groups through the customs branch in recent years is dragon fruit with a turnover of only nearly US$12,000.

Specifically, in 2021, Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs Branch handled customs clearance procedures for nearly 400,000 tons of dragon fruit, nearly 80,000 tons of watermelon, nearly 70,000 tons of bananas and more than 106,000 tons of cassava of all kinds.

The main reason for sharp decrease in export turnover of dragon fruit and other products through the unit was the "Zero-Covid" policy of China from the beginning of 2022, so import and export activities in the area were disrupted and now are resuming.

Regarding the export of agricultural products through the Lao Cai International Border Gate Customs Branch, in the two days from October 11 and 12, the branch carried out export procedures for more than 34 tons of durian. This is the first time durian products have been officially exported through Kim Thanh II international road border gate in Lao Cai.

Regarding import-export activities through the branch, from the beginning of the year to October 12, the total turnover reached nearly US$700 million, including US$500 million of goods going through procedures at the customs branch office, US$150 million of goods in bonded warehouse and US$48 million of goods in transit, border-gate transfer and temporary import for re-export.
