Director General of Vietnam Customs attends the 32nd meeting of the ASEAN Directors-General of Customs

 From June 6 to 8, Director General of the General Department of Vietnam Customs Nguyen Van Can attended the 32nd meeting of the ASEAN Directors-General of Customs in Thailand.

At the meeting, the Director Generals discussed on promoting trade facilitation and anti-smuggling with ASEAN Member States. In addition, bilateral meetings with partners Australia, Korea, China, Japan, EU-ABC, the United States-ABC also focused on ensuring security and safety and combating environmental crime and drug-related crime.

After this meeting, Vietnam Customs will assume the Chairmanship of the 33rd meeting of the ASEAN Directors-General of Customs in 2024 in Vietnam.

Drug trafficking and transportation by air has been taken place complicatedly with the large quantity and sophisticated tricks.

Facing this situation, Vietnam Customs has strengthened the fight against drug-related crime and control of lawful drug-related activities in the customs control area.

Vietnam Customs has focused on improving the efficiency of the leadership and coordination between Customs authorities and other enforcement forces, especially the Police authority in drug-related crime prevention and control. Therefore, Customs has arrested many cases of illegal transportation of drugs by air.

Notably, in the first days of June, Vietnam Customs coordinated with Police authority to arrest a foreign passenger who illegally transported drugs from Dubai transit in Noi Bai International Airport to a third country.

The Customs seized 4.2 kg of cocaine, hidden in the soles of 12 slippers and one white nylon bag at the bottom of the suitcase.

On May 5, Anti-drug Enforcement Team (Hanoi Customs Department) and Noi Bai International Customs Branch detected that a consignment shipped from the Netherlands to Vietnam had suspicious signs of hiding drugs in Heineken beer cans.

The Customs and Police authorities arrested two suspects in Van Giang district, Hung Yen province, and seized 19,88445 kg of drugs, including 14,60207 kg of synthetic drug MDMA and 5.28238 kg of ketamine.
