Mr. Au Anh Tuan, Deputy Director General of Viet Nam Customs, chaired a meeting with Mr. Marcos Antonio Bednarski, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Argentina on December 9th, 2025 at the headquarter of the Department of Customs.
At the meeting, on behalf of Viet Nam Customs, Deputy Director General, Mr. Au Anh Tuan thanked the Embassy of the Republic of Argentina to Viet Nam and the Ambassador for their interest in the cooperation between Viet Nam Customs and Argentina Customs in facilitating import and export procedures for businesses of both countries.
According to trade statistics, Argentina is the third largest trading partner of Viet Nam in Latin America. Bilateral trade relations maintain a stable growth trend, import and export turnover between the two countries consistently exceeding 4 billion USD from 2021 to 2025. Conversely, Viet Nam is the eighth largest trading partner of Argentina all over the world and the third largest in Asia after China and India.
In the text of Viet Nam - MERCOSUR Free Trade Agreement (FTA) currently in the official negotiation phase, the signed agreement will create significant momentum for bilateral trade, leveraging complementary strengths. Viet Nam will export technology and textiles, while MERCOSUR member countries will export agricultural products and energy. It will also open up great opportunities for Vietnamese businesses to access the Latin American market including Argentina. Consequently, import and export turnover between the two sides will continue its strong growth trajectory, and customs cooperation will contribute to the healthy development of bilateral trade, benefiting the people and businesses of both countries.
On this occasion, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary introduced the newly appointed Argentine Agricultural Attaché to Viet Nam, effective July 2025, and expressed the hope that the two sides would establish a mechanism for direct exchange between the Agricultural Attaché and the Customs Department to quickly address any issues or problems arising with Argentine goods imported into Viet Nam. The Ambassador also informed that Viet Nam is one of only six countries in the world where Argentina has opened an Agricultural Attaché Office, demonstrating the Argentine Government's special emphasis on the Vietnamese market.
During the meeting, representatives from Viet Nam Customs informed the Argentine Embassy about customs procedures for importing agricultural products and animal feed into Viet Nam, as well as regulations on compliance management for import-export businesses, with the aim of further facilitating businesses' compliance with customs laws.
Once again, Deputy Director General Au Anh Tuan affirmed that Viet Nam Customs is ready to cooperate with the Embassy of the Republic of Argentina in Viet Nam to continue facilitating import and export activities between Viet Nam and Argentina in particular and the Latin American region in general, and expressed confidence that in the future, bilateral cooperation between Viet Nam Customs and Argentina Customs will continue to contribute to the sustainable development of relations between Viet Nam and Argentina.
