Maritime domain awareness training

Under the framework of the Global Program on Maritime Crime Prevention (GMCP), Department of Viet Nam Customs has cooperated with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) to organize a training course on maritime domain awareness from May 18 to 22, 2026 in Da Nang city, Viet Nam.

The objective of the training is to provide customs officers with types of advanced maritime tracking platforms (MDAs) and how to use these MDAs for maritime law enforcement such as: Skylight, Global fishing watch, Equasis, StarBoard, RMOR.

Compared to traditional platforms, these MDAs are modern and advanced which are integrated artificial intelligence to screen suspicious vessels, supporting maritime law enforcement forces to detect violated vessels promptly, saving time and resources.

In the context of increasing numbers of maritime crime with more sophisticated methods in relevant to the trafficking of drug and weapons, the smuggling of cigarettes, gasolineandoil, the illegal migration, the violations of UN Security Council sanctions, the application of modern management measures and tools to protect national security and the flow of legitimate trade is a task and a goal that Department of Viet Nam Customs and other maritime law enforcement forces have been making the effort.
