STRENGTHENING OF COOPERATION AND INFORMATION SHARING WITH NEW ZEALAND CUSTOMS

From September 8 to 10, 2026, Department of Viet Nam Customs welcomed New Zealand security attachés and New Zealand counselors in Hanoi, then had meetings with the delegation in Nghe An and Ho Chi Minh City. The delegation comprises attachés and counselors of New Zealand Embassies in Bangkok-Thailand and Viet Nam who are responsible for security matters concerning Viet Nam.

These meetings are under the working agenda of the delegation with Ministry of Viet Nam Public Security and Department of Viet Nam Customs to foster bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and New Zealand in combating transnational crime and illegal migration. The visit is the opportunity for identification and development of areas for cooperation with mutual interest, following the official visit to New Zealand by General Secretary and President To Lam in August 2026.

On September 8th, 2026, during a meeting in Hanoi with the delegation, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Viet Nga, Deputy Chief of the Customs Office highlighted that the partnership between Vietnam Customs and New Zealand Customs should be promoted and developed more deeply and effectively for border management and trade facilitation. Both sides agreed to boost future customs cooperation through information sharing and capacity building. New Zealand will facilitate Vietnam Customs' participation in capacity-building programs designed for law enforcement officers from the Golden Triangle region on intelligence collection, processing, and sharing, while also sharing its expertise to Viet Nam Customs about digital transformation and customs modernization.
