VIENTIANE — A capacity building training course on Classification, Valuation, and Rules of Origin for Lao Customs kicked off in the Lao capital of Vientiane on Tuesday morning, September 15, 2026.

This cooperative activity falls under the 2026 Cooperation Plan between Viet Nam Customs and Lao Customs approved by the leadership of both Customs Administrations. The Viet Nam Customs delegation is led by Ms. Mai Thi Van Anh, Deputy Director of the Customs Duty and Tax Operations Sub- Department. Joining the delegation are officials from the Commodity Classification and Tariff Section and the Customs Valuation Section (Customs Duty and Tax Operations Sub- Department), the Section for Origin, Intellectual Property Operations and General Affairs (Customs Control and Supervision Sub- Department), and the International Cooperation Section (Department Office). On the Lao side, the training course brings together 31 officers from various divisions of the Lao Customs Department and local customs units across the country. The Deputy Director General of Lao Customs Department attended and delivered opening remarks to launch the Training Course.

The Training Course is taking place from September 15 to 18, 2026. Throughout the course, delegates from Viet Nam Customs will share their expertise and practical experience with Lao Customs across three core customs domains: Commodity Classification, Customs Valuation, and Rules of Origin. Additionally, Lao Customs representatives will present on the current implementation of these three operational areas in Laos, highlighting key challenges and bottlenecks encountered in practice. Each presentation will be followed by a Q&A session to address arising issues and further clarify technical details.
